Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:42:07 GMT

Memorial Day marks the unofficial date when baseball fans can start checking the standings. The Mets survived a bumpy few weeks and have sparked a winning streak, reeling off five straight against the Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Guardians. They head into a six-game road trip with a chance to make up more ground against the Chicago Cubs and the Colorado Rockies. However, the Mets have played 48 games and only three times has a pitcher gotten through seven innings. Justin Verlander has done it twice, throwing eight innings Sunday against the Guardians to give the bullpen a much-needed reprieve before a day off. The team’s most pressing issue is starting pitching, with the club having burned through all of the depth way back in April and a staff that routinely fails to go deep into games.Mets starters have posted a 5.09 ERA, which ranks 25th in the league. The 238 and 2/3 innings pitched is the 10th fewest in baseball. The bullpen has had to pick up a lot of work and it has p...

Fastball felt good,” the Chicago White Sox pitcher said Monday. “In the seventh inning, it wasn’t really a lot of pain. I just couldn’t feel where the ball was coming out. So I knew something was going on, but adrenaline was obviously pretty high.”Clevinger was sore the next day, and the Sox on Sunday placed the right-hander on the 15-day injured list with right wrist inflammation. The move is retroactive to Thursday, and he anticipates being ready when he’s eligible to return June 2.Clevinger was in line to start again Monday against his former team, this time at Progressive Field. NEW YORK — Teenagers will officially be allowed to open a Venmo account with their parent’s permission, the company said Monday, expanding the popular social payments app to an age demographic that is likely to embrace it almost immediately.Using Venmo won’t necessarily be new to a good number of teens — parents often set up accounts for their children through their own accounts, which is a violation of Venmo’s terms of service. There have been guides on the Internet for some time showing parents how to create a child’s account without Venmo penalizing them.Venmo has been a popular way to send money to individuals for years, and now has more than 90 million users. The product for teens comes at a time when other social apps are being watched closely by politicians and regulators. The state of Montana banned TikTok last week and other states are considering a ban as well.Opening up Venmo to teenagers will be a significant expansion of Venmo’s market. Com...
