FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The family of deceased Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins has filed a lawsuit against several people, businesses and the state of Florida, claiming he was drugged, robbed and extorted before he was fatally struck while standing drunk on a highway after running out of gas. The lawsuit, filed recently in Fort Lauderdale, alleges the former Ohio State star was drugged and robbed by a man and three women in the hours before the April 9, 2022, accident. They say it happened at a Boca Raton hotel, at an upscale golf driving range, a bar and a nightclub. The lawsuit does not give any specifics. Haskins, 24, had been in South Florida for offseason workouts with Steelers teammates when the accident happened. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of his widow and parents, also names the driver and owner of the dump truck that struck him, saying it was exceeding the speed limit, had worn tires and brakes and was overloaded. By TOM KRISHER and MATTHEW DALY (Associated Press)WASHINGTON — The Biden administration will propose strict new automobile pollution limits this week that would require at least 54% of new vehicles sold in the U.S. to be electric by 2030 and as many as two of every three by 2032, according to industry and environmental officials briefed on the plan. The proposed regulation, to be released Wednesday by the Environmental Protection Agency, would set greenhouse gas emissions limits for the 2027 through 2032 model years for passenger vehicles that would be more even stricter than goals the auto industry agreed to in 2021.The EPA will offer a range of options that the agency can select after a public comment period, the officials said. They asked not to be identified because the proposal hasn’t been made public. The proposed regulation isn’t expected to become final until next year.Environmental groups are applauding the ambitious numbers, which were first reported over the weekend ...Best Blackjack Sites in 2023: Updated List of the Top 5 Sites to Play Real Money Blackjack Online

Sixteen residents in Aurora have sued the city’s mayor and city council in an attempt to stop the construction of an apartment complex near their gated golf course community. The lawsuit, filed April 5 in Arapahoe County District Court, asks a judge there to overturn a unanimous vote by the city’s planning commission that approved the project. The Garrett Cos., an Indiana-based builder of apartment complexes, intends to turn a vacant 15-acre lot at East Aurora Parkway and South Quemoy Way in southeast Aurora into Echelon at Eagle Bend. The complex would have 260 units inside a dozen buildings.Just south of the proposed Echelon at Eagle Bend is the Heritage Eagle Bend subdivision, home to unhappy residents who have signed a petition, testified before the Aurora Planning and Zoning Commission and, when those tactics failed, sued the commission.“I am requesting, on behalf of 800-plus residents who have signed petitions, that the Echelon development not be allowed to move forward as desig...California stockpiles abortion drug Misoprostol in wake of Texas court ruling

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Monday that the state had secured an emergency stockpile of up to two million pills of Misoprostol, a widely-used abortion medication. The announcement comes after a federal judge in Texas on Friday halted FDA approval of Mifepristone, another abortion medication, in what is viewed as a major victory for anti-abortion conservatives. California bill would ban the sale of Skittles, Hot Tamales & other food items “In response to this extremist ban on a medication abortion drug, our state has secured a stockpile of an alternative medication abortion drug to ensure that Californians continue to have access to safe reproductive health treatments,” Newsom said in a statement. “We will not cave to extremists who are trying to outlaw these critical abortion services.
