DeMar DeRozan returned to the court with the Chicago Bulls on Friday night at the United Center after missing Wednesday’s game for personal reasons.DeRozan was away from the team for two days to attend to a family matter. The Bulls offense struggled mightily without him, scoring only 94 points in the loss to the Orlando Magic. It’s rare for the Bulls to need to make do without DeRozan. He missed only 14 games in his last two seasons in Chicago, several of which were due to late-season load management and the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bulls gained appreciation for what they lose whenever DeRozan can’t be on the court.“He’s almost like another point guard, another playmaker for us,” coach Billy Donovan said. “At times we got sped up the other night, especially in the first half with the turnovers, and we’ve got to take better care of the basketball. Usually in those situations, he’s the calming force for us.Potential trade partners for ...

Canadians still stuck in the war-torn Gaza Strip continue to wait their chance to cross into Egypt.Saturday’s list from the General Authority for Crossings and Borders in Gaza contained no Canadians, further stalling a chance to leave through the Rafah border crossing. As of Friday, Global Affairs Canada says 376 Canadians, permanent residents and their relatives have been able to leave the Palestinian territory via Rafah. The United Nations has been forced to stop deliveries of food and other necessities in Gaza and warned of the growing risk of widespread starvation after internet and telephone services collapsed because of a lack of fuel.Israel has announced it will allow two tanker trucks of fuel into Gaza each day for the United Nations and communications, though that is half of what the United Nations says it needs for life-saving functions such as powering water systems, hospitals, bakeries and the trucks delivering aid.Gaza health officials say more than 11,470 people h...

Jordan’s foreign minister offers blistering criticism of Israel as its war on Hamas rages on

Jordan’s foreign minister offered blistering criticism Saturday of Israel’s war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip, describing it as “blatant aggression” against Palestinian civilians that threatens to engulf the wider Middle East. Ayman Safadi’s harsh assessment, alleging Israel was committing “war crimes” by besieging the Gaza Strip and cutting off food, medicine and fuel shipments, shows how strained relations have become between Israel and Jordan — which reached a peace deal in 1994. “All of us have to speak loud and clear about the catastrophe that the Israeli war is bringing, not just on Gaza, but on the region in general,” Safadi told the International Institute for Strategic Studies’ Manama Dialogue summit in Bahrain. “This is not a time for mincing words. This is a time to state facts as they are.”He added: “This is not self-defense. This is a blatant aggression, the victims of which are innocent Palestinians.”Israel did not immediately respond to SafadiR...
